2-Seat vs 4-Seat UTV: Which One Fits Your Group?

· UTV Guide

Count heads, then count drivers. Three or four people who want to ride together: get a 4-seater. Two people, or a group with more than one person who wants to drive: go 2-seat, or mix sizes.

Why drivers matter: only the person who rents a UTV can drive it. That one rule settles most of this.

One machine, one driver

Each UTV has one driver all day: the primary renter, 25 or older with a physical driver's license. Nobody else takes the wheel, not even for a quick turn. If two people in your group want to drive, you need two machines and two renters.

Riders are a different story. They can be any age. Every rider signs a vQuip waiver before pickup, and a parent or guardian signs for anyone under 18 (one parent can sign for up to 6 kids). Helmets are included, one per rider. If you need kids' sizes, kids' helmets are for sale at the shop.

Pick by group size

Your group What works
1 or 2 riders, one driver One 2-seater
2 riders who both want to drive Two 2-seaters, one renter each
3 or 4 riders, one driver One 4-seater
5 or 6 riders A 4-seater and a 2-seater
7 or 8 riders Two 4-seaters
Bigger groups Mix sizes so everyone has a seat, and call or text us at (760) 573-6825

Every machine in the group needs its own renter-driver, 25 or older with a physical driver's license.

When a 4-seater is the pick

  • Families. Kids ride along with a parent driving, and everyone stays together.
  • Groups with one driver. If only one person is 25 or older with a license, or only one person wants to drive, one 4-seater carries everybody.
  • Riding together. One machine means one pace, and nobody to wait for or go looking for out on the sand.
  • One hold instead of two. The security hold is per machine, so one 4-seater means one hold on one card.

When a 2-seater is the pick

  • Couples and pairs where one person is happy to drive all day.
  • More than one driver. Everyone who wants to drive gets their own machine.
  • The 72-inch X3 RS models. The Maverick X3 RS Turbo, X3 RS Turbo RR and X3 XRS Turbo RR come in 2-seat only.

Quick answers

Can two of us take turns driving?

No. Only the primary renter drives that machine, all day. If two people want to drive, rent two machines, one per driver.

Can kids ride in a 4-seater?

Yes. Riders can be any age, and a parent or guardian signs the waiver for anyone under 18. Our family rentals page has more.

Do 4-seaters come as half-day rentals?

The Commander MAX XT and X3 MAX DS do. Half-day and 2-hour rentals are available on the Commander XT, Commander MAX XT, X3 DS, X3 MAX DS, X3 RS Turbo RR and X3 XRS, but not on holiday dates. The Maverick R models and the X3 RS Turbo (non-RR) are full-day only.

Can I change the seat count after I book?

Call or text us at (760) 573-6825 as early as you can. Switching depends on what's open on your dates.
