If Your Rental UTV Breaks Down or Gets Stuck

If your rental stops running, or you're stuck and can't get going, call us at (760) 573-6825 and stay with the machine.

After hours, for an equipment problem on a rental, call the same number and press 8.

What to do

  1. Shut it off. If something's wrong with the machine, stop and turn it off. Don't keep driving or revving it.
  2. Call or text us at (760) 573-6825. After hours, press 8 for an equipment problem on a rental.
  3. Tell us where you are. GPS coordinates from your phone are best. A landmark helps too, like Competition Hill or Gecko Road.
  4. Tell us what happened and whether everyone in your group is OK.
  5. Stay with the machine and keep your group together. A parked UTV is easier to find than people walking on the sand.
  6. Don't try to fix it yourself. We'll tell you what happens next.

Never leave a machine in the dunes overnight. If it can't come back, call us and stay with it.

Belts, clutches and axles

Drive belt damage is common. If you hear a bang and the machine loses power, shut it off right away. Running it after a belt breaks can damage the engine oil seal, and a damaged oil seal means taking the whole engine apart.

Under our rental terms, broken belts and axles count as customer damage, and we charge to replace them. Belts, clutches and axles are always charged, damage waiver or not, and there's no refund for riding time lost to them.

What the rental terms cover

  • The optional damage waiver caps physical damage to our machine at the deductible. It never covers mechanical damage (engine, transmission, clutches, axles, belts) or liability.
  • If there's damage, we keep your security hold until the itemized repair invoice is final, then capture only that total and release the rest. If damage is more than the hold, the card on file is charged the difference.
  • No cash or credit card refunds. Any refund for an equipment problem is store credit for a future rental.

The full rules are in our Rental Terms, and our guide to deposits, insurance and damage explains how the waiver and hold work together.
