Two different things get called a "deposit" when you rent from us, and two separate protections apply to every UTV. Here's how each one works, what's covered, what never is, and what happens when you bring the unit back.

The 25% reservation deposit
The 25% reservation deposit is a real payment made at booking and applied to your balance. Your dates aren't held until it's paid. On a UTV, the rest of the balance is charged to the card on file the morning of pickup. On an RV, the rest is due on delivery day.
Cancellations and date changes
Your 25% reservation deposit locks in your dates. Deposits are not refunded as cash or credit card, but cancellations or date changes can receive store credit:
- 2+ weeks before your rental start date: store credit for the full deposit.
- Less than 2 weeks, but at least 2 days before: store credit for half the deposit.
- 1 day before or same day: deposit forfeited, no store credit (no exceptions).
There's no refund or credit for an early return. Weather and BLM-closure credits are decided case by case. Store credit never expires and can be used on rentals.
The security hold
The security hold is a hold, not a charge, placed on your card in case the unit comes back damaged. UTV holds go on the morning of pickup; RV holds go on the day of delivery.
- $2,500 per Commander or X3 DS / MAX DS
- $3,500 per X3 RS (any), RS RR, XRS or any Maverick R
- $500 per RV
The hold goes on a physical credit or debit card in the renter's name that matches their ID (credit works best). Cash holds only with a manager's OK, so call us first. We release the hold the same day the unit comes back clean. Your bank can take up to 7 days to show it, and longer on a debit card.
What protects you on a UTV
vQuip Adventure Shield (required)
The Adventure Shield is required on every UTV rental, including half-day and 2-hour rentals, and it's already in your checkout total. It's trip insurance: liability if the driver injures someone or damages someone else's property, plus accident medical for riders.
Damage waiver (optional)
The damage waiver is optional and comes pre-selected in checkout, per machine per day. It caps what you pay for physical damage to our machine at the deductible:
- $2,500 on the Commander XT and Commander MAX XT
- $3,000 on the X3 DS Turbo and X3 MAX DS Turbo
- $3,500 on every X3 RS, X3 XRS and Maverick R
RVs have no damage waiver and no Adventure Shield.
What's never covered
- Mechanical damage (belts, clutches, axles, engine): the damage waiver never covers it, and belts, clutches and axles are always charged, waiver or not
- Riding time lost to a broken belt, clutch or axle (no refund)
- Liability under the damage waiver (that is what the Adventure Shield is for)
Rules that protect your hold
- Walk around the machine with us at pickup, and point out any damage you see so it's noted
- Only the renter drives the UTV
- No night riding on rentals
- If a belt breaks, shut the machine off right away; running it can damage the engine's oil seal
- Never leave a machine in the dunes overnight. If it breaks down, call us and stay with it. After hours, call (760) 573-6825 and press 8 for an equipment problem on a rental.
- No smoking in our RVs: smoking means we keep the $500 hold, plus the cost of the cleanup
What happens at return
We inspect the unit when it comes back. If there's damage, we keep the hold until the itemized repair invoice is final, then capture only that total and release the rest. If the damage costs more than the hold, the card on file is charged the difference.
Return checklist
- Bring the UTV back before closing on your last day. A late return adds a late fee plus another rental day.
- No need to refill: fuel is either the flat-rate option you added or paid per gallon on return
- Take your personal items
